About Music Theater Builders

Musical Theater Builders After School Programs create a world of theatrical adventure, collaboration, and discovery. In Musical Theater Builders, children experiment with theatrical improv to develop original stories and characters. New lyrics are created, based on the children’s ideas, and set to famous Operatic, Symphonic, and Musical Theater hit tunes—often with very comic effect! Finally, children rehearse and perform the “World Premiere” of their original show for family and friends. Each class is accompanied by a conservatory-trained musician. Class size is limited to 13 students, ensuring that each child is given the opportunity to make his or her own unique contribution. Each day will start with a group meeting and warm ups. From there, children will engage in a rich variety of activities including group and solo singing, movement, dramatic play, and improvisational theater games. Children will also spend time creating a “character journal” full of artwork, and descriptive words and ideas to help them delve deeper into the creative process. At the end of each program, parents and friends are invited to arrive a few minutes early at pick up to enjoy a short presentation of the children’s songs and sketches.
